I feel the Royal 400 is a very underrated radio. They were introduced about the same time as the famed Royal 500H, which stole all their thunder. However, the Royal 400 featured the same large oval extended range speaker. The performance of the 400’s was excellent with this large speaker and they were very sensitive with their gear reduced Vernier tuning.
The 400’s large metal grill is beautiful on well preserved examples. They were offered in black or white with gold grills, and two-tone brown or two-tone green with matching grills. I like the beautiful two-tone green version the best.
