Hand-Held Zenith Royals for Sale
Starting in 1960, Zenith introduced the Royal 50, their first compact radio. Between 1960 and 1965, Zenith offered a variety of shirt pockets small enough to fit into a shirt pocket instead of a coat pocket. were offered at low prices; between $19.95 – $29.95 compared to $39.95 – $59.95 for coat pockets. As a result, the customer base was the younger crowd who could sneak them into school to listen to the ball game or pop music.
Has anyone else noticed how hard it is to find these radios lately. And to catch one in collector condition is truly a rare find. It makes sense though because of the short duration they were produced and that they were usually well used by their owners (unless Grandma put it away in the drawer). I believe that if you have one, it is a true “diamond in the rough.”
